Tamworth Borough Council are continuing with essential electrical works in partnership with Goom Electrical, to replace distribution fuse boards in all six high-rise blocks.

As part of the council’s ongoing contract electrical compliance work, Harcourt House, work to install the new fuse boards is nearly complete. The work will now progress across the remaining five high-rise blocks, with Stanhope and Peel part of phase one of the programme, and the remaining three blocks in phase two.

The qualified electrical engineers are working to access all the high-rise to replace fuse boxes and identify any other additional essential electrical repairs. Tenants will be contacted by Goom Electrical prior to booking an appointment. The electrical contractors will have full ID, and tenants can call the council to check any contractor ID before letting them into their home.

The work is in addition to the rolling five-year programme of vital electrical safety checks taking place in council properties across the borough.

There is no additional fee to tenants for this work; the cost forms part of the weekly rent tenants already pay. The work involves isolating the existing fuse board from the mains supply before being removed. The new one is installed and retested to certify as safe.

The new fuse boxes are part of the council’s standard work to make sure homes remain safe and secure for all tenants, and compliant with rigorous health and safety laws.

Councillor Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homelessness and planning, said: “Keeping our tenants safe is always our top priority, and replacing the high-rise distribution boards is a crucial part of that.

“We’re committed to making sure our council homes are well maintained and meet the highest safety standards.

“I want to thank our tenants for their ongoing support while this work takes place.

“We’re in a strong position now to move forward with the next phase and make sure all our high-rise blocks benefit from the upgrades.”

Tamworth Borough Council has a regular programme of safety checks, improvements and upgrades including a standard programme of kitchen, bathroom and window improvements. Plus a 24/7 repairs hotline service so that all home repairs can be dealt with as soon as possible.

To report a repair, call 0800 183 0044. This number is staffed 24/7 and should also be used to report an out of hours repair in an emergency. Please note calls might be charged from a mobile. Or email the team at repairs@tamworth.gov.uk.

Tenants can monitor the status of the repair and review the repair history of their property in their MyHousing account.
