Tamworth District Scouts are delighted to announce they have begun work to make their premises more accessible, thanks to a community grant awarded by Tamworth Borough Council this year.

Tamworth District Scouts received a £1,000 grant to support the scouts project to make the District Activity Centre in Deltic more accessible by installing an access ramp and a new automatic opening door.

The council offers a Community Grant Scheme available for community, not for profit organisations or for identified not for profit projects to work collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of the residents of Tamworth.

The pot available is a total of £18,590 per year and shared out on a quarterly basis.

Peter Seedhouse, District Treasurer for Tamworth District Scouts, said: “We would like to thank all the people who helped fund this project and for the support given.

“The centre is used by many community groups and people that are wheelchair users or users of a frame or crutches.

“In the past wheelchair users have not been able to access the front door without ramps being put out and this was far from ideal. In addition, the old door had a threshold which made it harder to open.

“We took action to ensure that all users can now access the centre through the front door and indeed all doors at the push of a button. The feedback we have received has been great.”

“We want to help as many local groups and organisations as possible and continue to support residents and local communities.
