Summary of results
Thank you for taking part in stage one of the Community Governance Review, giving your views on whether Tamworth should have a parish council.
We had a total of 965 people take part in the survey.
76% of people were in favour of creating a parish council, but this decreased to 53% when asked about the funding of a parish council.
Parish councils are funded through an additional charge to Council Tax, known as a precept.
Summary of stage one process
- An online survey to collect responses, where paper copies were also made available for people who prefer this method.
- Over 8,000 postcards distributed across the borough.
- Promotional banners and posters up around Tamworth.
- Press releases sent out and in the Tamworth Herald to reach a wider audience.
- Nearly 40,000 emails sent encouraging participation in the survey.
- Ran a social media campaign to reach as many people as possible.
- Directly engaged with over 250 people in five in person consultation events held in different locations including:
- Tamworth market, Tuesday 30 June
- Kaleidoscope of Dreams festival, Caste Grounds Saturday 4 July
- Stonydelph community estate day, St Martin’s Church Wednesday 8 July
- Ankerside pop up, Saturday 18 July
- Aethelstan 1100, Tamworth Market, Saturday 25 July - In stage one of this consultation, we have reached over 50,000 people to seek their views.
