Tamworth Borough Council is delighted to join residents living in sheltered accommodation schemes to get outdoors and plant a pot!

The plant a pot events are organised for tenants in supported housing. Help is at hand with setting up stations ready for planting, moving the pots and clearing away and storage of equipment and tools.

These lovely mornings are held on a rotating cycle at sheltered schemes and supported housing, to encourage people to socialise within their housing setting, stay active and enjoy the outdoor spaces. Tamworth Borough Council provide all the plants, pots, compost and tools, encouraging residents of all abilities to join in with the event and take a pot to display either in their own gardens or the communal areas.

Currently two events take place during a year, however for 2025 the aim is to increase to four events: two in May and two in September.

Last year Seaton’s Hire kindly donated two large gazebos, as well as trowels and small forks so that these events can carry on for many years come rain or shine.

Councillor Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homeless and planning, said “We’re really happy with how popular the plant a pot scheme has become with tenants in supported housing. It’s a simple idea, but it makes a big difference, helping people feel more connected, improving wellbeing, and brightening up outdoor spaces that residents can enjoy together.

“Thanks to support from Seaton Hire and Manor Park Nurseries, we’ve been able to expand the scheme and bring even more planting days to our sheltered schemes this year. These events are always well attended and create lovely opportunities for people to spend time outdoors, meet their neighbours, or simply enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.

“I also want to thank our brilliant officers and the Street Scene team, who go the extra mile to make the events run smoothly. From setting up tables and gazebos, to helping residents carry pots and packing everything away.

“As we head into summer, I’m looking forward to seeing these pots in full bloom and, most importantly, seeing our residents get plenty of chances to enjoy their gardens and shared spaces.”
