  • Pathway Project raises over £20,000 through community crowdfunding
  • Tamworth Borough Council’s second fully funded project under the We Are Tamworth programme
  • Programme to educate more than 500 young people on healthy relationships

Tamworth Borough Council are pleased to announce that Glow Up Strong, a youth-focused initiative led by Pathway Project, has successfully reached its crowdfunding goal of over £20,000. It is the second community project to be fully funded through the We Are Tamworth programme, delivered by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Spacehive.

The project will now deliver a series of free workshops and outreach sessions across schools, youth groups and community settings in Tamworth. Aimed especially at young women and girls, the sessions will build awareness of healthy relationships and help participants recognise early signs of abuse.

The campaign received 38 pledges, including support from local residents, organisations, and match funding from Tamworth Borough Council and the government’s Community Recovery Fund.

With funding secured, the project will recruit a Young Women’s Domestic Abuse Prevention Officer and host 24 drop-in sessions using engaging tools such as the Safety Spin to encourage open conversation and build confidence.

Councillor Sarah Daniels, Portfolio Holder for Cooperative Council, Community Partnerships and ASB, said:
" Glow Up Strong is a fantastic example of the positive impact that local initiatives can have when communities come together. Reaching this crowdfunding milestone is not just about raising funds, it’s about empowering young women and creating a future where healthy relationships are the norm.

“Tamworth Borough Council is proud to support a project that will help young people stay safe, build self-worth and form respectful relationships. The ‘We Are Tamworth’ programme is all about supporting projects that build resilience, confidence, and opportunity. I look forward to seeing the difference it will make in the lives of young people across Tamworth.”

Pav Kaur, Interim CEO of Pathway Project added:
"Reaching our crowdfunding goal for Glow Up Strong by Pathway Project is more than just a fundraising milestone. It is a powerful message from the community that our young people matter. This achievement means we can now deliver life-changing workshops that empower young people to recognise abuse, build emotional resilience, and make safer choices. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who stood with us. Together, we’re creating a stronger, safer future for Tamworth’s youth."

Statistics show that one in three young people aged 16 to 24 experience dating abuse, yet only one in five seek help. Glow Up Strong aims to reach at least 500 participants, with a goal that 80 per cent will leave with improved awareness and confidence in setting boundaries and recognising abusive behaviour.

This success reflects Tamworth Borough Council’s ongoing commitment to support projects that build stronger communities, promote inclusion and increase opportunity for local people.

There are currently three other local projects live on the Spacehive platform seeking support, including initiatives focused on mental health, youth gambling prevention and inclusive community football.

The We Are Tamworth programme is delivered by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Spacehive and funded through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s £600,000 Community Recovery Fund. The programme was created following the civil unrest in Tamworth on 4 August 2023 to enhance community cohesion and rebuild social trust.
