  • Free family festival returns to Castle Grounds on Saturday 4 July
  • For the second year running, Kaleidoscope of Dreams to see hundreds of Tamworth schoolchildren to perform songs, dances and live music
  • Colour run, petting zoo, Community Games and voluntary sector stalls also on offer

Tamworth Borough Council is excited to invite local people to the second ‘Kaleidoscope of Dreams’ event happening on Saturday 4 July.

The celebration of community will see hundreds of children from Tamworth schools again take to the stage to sing, dance and perform in a celebration of community and togetherness in the Castle Grounds.

Everyone is invited to support the youngsters who have been working hard preparing songs, dances, live music, artwork and cheerleading displays for the town’s second ‘Kaleidoscope of Dreams’ festival.

As well as entertainment on the lower lawn stage, the free-to-attend event will include a colour run for children and parents, a Community Games and sports zone, petting zoo, walkabout characters, facepainting, and stalls from the voluntary sector.

After an exciting line-up of school dance troupes, choirs and bands, all performers will come together to sing four special songs, one of which has been written especially for this year’s festival theme - ‘better together’.

Children are also busy creating posters, strips of bunting, and shields, depicting why they think communities are better when we all work together. These will be displayed around the grounds and at locations in the town throughout the festival in a special Art Trail.

Stephen Gabriel, Chief Executive of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “The first Kaleidoscope of Dreams Festival last summer was a huge success attended by thousands of families, and we hope to build on that this year.

“The aim of the festival is to encourage unity, equality and diversity in Tamworth, showcasing the different cultures that make our communities special, and bringing us together for one big celebration.

“With everything on offer throughout the day, it’s a good opportunity to come down with a picnic, support the performers and enjoy being part of the Tamworth community.”

Maria Hamblin, Chief Executive Officer for Fierté Multi-Academy Trust has again been working with all the schools to co-ordinate the performances and artwork displays.

For pupils, the Kaleidoscope of Dreams will round off a week of activities during which they will write poetry, create pieces of art, learn and perform songs, dress up as creative words, learn dances with Landau Forte high school students, and take part in celebration assemblies. Teachers and leaders from all participating schools have come together to plan the week-long festivities.

Maria said: “This was such a wonderful and inspiring event last year with great feedback from the pupils, teachers and parents involved. For the children, it was an exciting opportunity to perform on a stage to a big audience and they’re busy working on some fantastic new numbers this year.

“Tamworth schools are enjoying collaborating in this way to create something very special, while reminding us all what a wonderful community we have here, and all the different people who are part of it.”

The Kaleidoscope of Dreams kicks off with the free colour run at 11am (runners are asked to arrive at 10.45am to register), with performances on the lower lawn main stage between around 11.30am and 4.30pm (full running order will be available nearer the time).

Additional entertainment such as the Community Games, petting zoo, walkabout characters and stalls will be available throughout the day from 11am to 5pm. Please note that while the event is free to attend, there may be a charge for some activities.

There are still spaces for any community, charity or voluntary groups who would like a stall on the day. Anyone interested is asked to email TARoutdoorevents@tamworth.gov.uk as soon as possible.
