Honorary Freedom of the Borough has been awarded to Rob Bowker in recognition of his tireless commitment to the community, charitable and community work.
Rob Bowker has received the prestigious Freedom of the Borough accolade at a presentation at the council chamber at Marmion House, on Thursday 8 January, with The Mayor of Tamworth Councillor Chris Bain.
Rob Bowker, well known and loved as ‘Bibbledy Bob’, is a dedicated community volunteer in Tamworth, renowned for his selfless efforts to support local families, charities, and individuals in need. His charitable work spans multiple areas, including organising Christmas initiatives, fundraising, and volunteering at various local organisations including:
- Santas Little Helpers: For the past five years, Rob has organised and fundraised for gifts, selection boxes, and toys for children in need during the Christmas season. He also arranges a special Christmas experience for families affected by terminal illness or tragic events, giving up his own Christmas Day to ensure others have a memorable holiday. He further distributes extra toys and gifts to local hospitals and other charitable organisations.
- Tamworth Pantry: Rob has volunteered at The Tamworth Pantry, a mobile food bank, for the last three years, helping to provide essential supplies to local families. He also fundraises for the charity to support its mission.
- Support for the Community: Rob provides free entertainment for children at a local pub, helping to create a positive, welcoming atmosphere for families. He is also behind the Mature Lunch Club, which he started after befriending a 92-year-old gentleman who was litter picking. This club brings together lonely individuals, offering companionship and support.
- Tamworth Radio: Rob is an active volunteer DJ at Tamworth Radio, where he gives up his time to entertain, educate, and inform listeners. His show has become a regular part of the lives of a growing community of listeners from around the world, and he is a strong ambassador for Tamworth in all his activities.
The decision to grant Rob the honour was voted for unanimously at the full council meeting on 4 November 2025.
It was also agreed that a Civic Pride award was presented to the team that support Rob in all his charitable work.
The first admission to honorary freeman in Tamworth was made in 1951, the person to achieve this distinction being Alderman Frederick George Allton.
The Freeman of the Borough is awarded to an individual who has given Tamworth an exceptional service over a significant period of time in a voluntary, professional or philanthropic capacity.
Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Chris Bain, said: “What an absolute pleasure it is to award this Honorary Freedom of the Borough to Rob as a recognition of his exceptional service.
"Rob’s unwavering dedication to our community is nothing short of inspiring. His selfless contributions, whether it's organising festive events for children in need, supporting families through difficult times, or offering a helping hand to those who are lonely, have made a profound impact on Tamworth.
“Rob brings love, hope and happiness to everyone and to everything he does for our town, and we are truly grateful for his heartfelt commitment and endless work.”
