The Dog Friendly Tamworth Guidance – Dog Owners

This guidance outlines the expectations for responsible dog ownership when visiting participating locations.

1. Responsible Dog Handling

  • Keep dogs under control at all times.
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
  • Ensure your dog is well-mannered, calm, and comfortable in new environments.
  • Participation in this scheme does not guarantee entry into any participating business. If your dog is disruptive or misbehaving, you may be asked to leave.

2. Cleanliness & Hygiene

  • Clean up after your dog immediately and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Carry suitable waste bags at all times.
  • Ensure your dog has been exercised and toileted before entering a dog-friendly business.
  • Refrain from entering a business if your dog is wet and/or muddy.

3. Respect for Others

  • Be mindful of other customers, staff, and visitors.
  • Respect that not everyone is comfortable around dogs.
  • Follow any venue-specific rules or requests from staff.
  • Inform staff if your dog cannot have treats or does not like to be approached by strangers. Consider using a clearly identifiable harness or lead.

4. Dog Welfare

  • Ensure your dog has access to water and is not left unattended.
  • Avoid bringing unwell or distressed dogs into public venues.
  • Monitor your dog’s behaviour and remove them if they become disruptive.
  • Unfamiliar environments can cause anxiety or stress in some dogs, so we recommend being mindful when bringing your dog to places where they may feel uncomfortable.

5. Compliance

  • Follow all laws and regulations relating to dog ownership.
  • Respect signage and guidance provided by participating locations.
  • We kindly ask that you take responsibility for any damage your dog may cause while in a dogfriendly location. Purpose: To create a welcoming, dog-friendly town by removing barriers for dog owners, encouraging visits, and stronger connections between the community and local businesses. Participating businesses reserve the right to refuse entry or withdraw from the scheme at any time. These decisions must be respected.
