The first evening show, a comedy, which will take place this Friday, July 30, is sold out and will see acts like the Black Country’s own Jonny Cole and former English police sergeant-turned-comedian Alfie Moore take to the stage to entertain and bring some long-awaited laughter to the crowd after the pandemic.

Speaking on the reopening of the Claymore Lounge and Tamworth Assembly Room’s first live event since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council Robert Pritchard, said: “I’m excited to see the Claymore Lounge open again for our community, for our theatre and art lovers to come down and not only watch some great productions but also enjoy a delicious selection of light bites.

“This past year has been a difficult one for event goers as most live events were cancelled and people haven’t been able to go out and experience the thrill of live action. And so, we’re delighted to launch the café’s reopening and offer our first live show since before the pandemic.”

The Claymore Lounge, based inside the Tamworth Assembly Rooms, first opened its doors two years ago in honour of former Tamworth Borough Councillor, the late Steve Claymore.

Cllr Claymore, who was the council’s cabinet member for Heritage and Growth, played a pivotal role in the £5 million project to refurbish the theatre and preserve its 130-year history for future generations.

Following his sad passing from cancer, councillors named the new lounge after him.

Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager Adey Ramsel, added: “Tamworth audiences are obviously ready and willing to be entertained, with Friday night’s live comedy show sold out. However a live comedy show in November is already on sale with more dates being added. All evenings include a cash bar and the Claymore Lounge kitchen is open to order tasty plates to enjoy at your table whilst enjoying the laughter.”

The theatre café’s reopening will bring with it a fresh menu of delicious and amazing food such as hot and cold drinks (including Starbucks coffee), cakes, Paninis, jacket potatoes as well as having breakfast and lunch options.

New performances and events are now being added daily to the Assembly Room’s calendar. The Claymore Lounge is located at Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Corporation Street, B79 7DN and is open Tuesday – Friday from 8am-4pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
