Summer of FREE sporting activities returning to Tamworth

playscheme-2022Children aged two and over are being invited to take part in another exciting programme of free sports and activities this summer.

Tamworth Borough Council’s Sports Development Team has unveiled its brand-new programme of sporting events, ‘Playscheme 2022’, which will run daily Monday-Friday, throughout August.

The four-week scheme starts on August 1 and runs until August 26, with a wide range of activities for children aged two and upwards. The great news is all activities will be completely free of charge.

The varied programme is guaranteed to have something on offer for all abilities and interests, including dance, soft play, adventure golf, football camp, boxing, stand-up paddle boarding, and cycling. In addition, there will sessions available to book at Jump Xtreme and at Planters Skytrail.

This year all the favourite activities are back by popular demand after a reduce programme last year due to the pandemic, making the new programme full of fun free sessions to try.

Activities take place across the borough, with venues including the Castle Grounds, Tamworth Enterprise College, Brent House in Wilnecote, SMDA - dance academy, Cliff Lakes and Planters Garden Centre.

Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “These activities are always a huge success and are very popular, so I would encourage parents to sign up as soon as possible so that they don’t miss out.

“We have been working with sports clubs from across the borough to put together the summer programme, which means we can offer a wide range of events throughout August.

“We hope that children and young people from across Tamworth will find the new programme exciting and sign up to try something they may not have tried before”.

Along with the summer playscheme, Tamworth Borough Council is also hosting a summer of fun at Castle Summer Fest, which brings three weeks activities and entertainment to the Castle Grounds with many free fun and varied activities for all the family, including free sports demonstrations, free exercise classes for you to join, a free 5k festival run and shorter 1k children’s run.

Castle Summer Fest will also include free to watch live coverage throughout the 10 days of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on a large screen, after it was confirmed that Tamworth has been chosen as an official Festival Site for the competition – one of only two outside Birmingham and the only one in Staffordshire.
