Location - Why Tamworth

About Tamworth

Set in the beautiful county of Staffordshire, Tamworth is a vibrant town with a rich heritage.

Located in the centre of Britain, is it the largest government district with a growing population of over 77,000 people. Its location, a stone’s throw from England’s second city Birmingham, means it has great links to the rest of the country. Close to the M42, the M6 toll road and the A5, it is just a 20-minute journey by road to Birmingham, while London can be reached by rail in just over an hour.

Steeped in history, it is home to a wide choice of tourist attractions such as Drayton Manor Theme Park, The SnowDome, and is host to its own Castle which is now showcasing a new exhibition and tribute to Tamworth’s Anglo-Saxon history. The town also offers a unique shopping experience with High Street giants and a wide variety of quirky and independent shops, coffee shops and bars.

The town also has holds a variety of events, including theatre based performances based in its Assembly Rooms, a small theatre dating back from its original opening in 1889. By the early 1960’s, the venue attracted bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in the early years of their careers, making the venue a valuable asset reflecting Tamworth’s creative arts scene.

Strong tourism means the town is home to a number of places to stay, from family run B&Bs to larger hotels including Holiday Inn Express, Premier Inn, Travel Lodge and Drayton Manor Hotel.

Additionally to all that Tamworth offers already, Tamworth is transforming.

Tamworth Borough Council is working towards a new vision to restore Tamworth town centre as the beating heart of the community; a place that people want to visit, rather than a place they have to visit.
