UK Parliamentary General Election – Thursday 12 December

Are you interested in becoming a member of parliament for the Tamworth Constituency?

Preparations are underway for the forthcoming UK Parliamentary General Election – there is one seat being contested for the Tamworth Constituency and prospective candidates are being encouraged to come forward now.

To be able to stand as a candidate at a UK Parliamentary General Election in Great Britain you must, on the day you are nominated and on polling day, be:

  • at least 18 years old, and
  • either a British citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or an eligible Commonwealth citizen

Nominations for the forthcoming UK Parliamentary General Election will open on Friday 8 November and will close at 4pm on Thursday 14 November.

Will you be away on Thursday 12 December?

If you will be unable to attend the polling station then you can register to vote by post or proxy (where someone votes on your behalf) 

You can download a postal vote application here. Completed postal vote applications must be received by the Electoral Services Office no later than 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

You can download a proxy vote application here. Completed proxy vote applications must be received by the Electoral Services Office no later than 5pm on Wednesday 4 December.

Local Elections Thursday 12 December

Mercian Ward and Watling South Division by-elections

Are you interested in becoming a local councillor?

Preparations are underway for by-elections in the Mercian Ward and Watling South Division following the death of Cllr Michael Greatorex.

To stand for election, prospective councillors must be aged over 18, be either a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any other member state of the European Union and be a registered voter within the borough and have lived, worked or owned property in the borough for more than 12 months.

Nominations for this year’s local election will open on Friday, 8 November and close at 4pm on Friday, 15 November.

Local Elections Thursday 2 May 2019

Tamworth is divided into 10 wards, which are represented by 30 councillors. The wards are: Amington, Belgrave, Bolehall, Castle, Glascote, Mercian, Spital, Stonydelph, Trinity and Wilnecote. Elections will be taking place in each of the wards on Thursday 2 May 2019.
