Calling all green fingered enthusiasts to get your gloves out and enter this year’s ‘in Bloom’ competition

garden-comp-2022Garden enthusiasts are being invited to show off their green talents and enter this year’s Tamworth in Bloom garden competition.

Each year, Tamworth Borough Council holds a ‘Best in Bloom’ competition to encourage green-fingered residents in the borough to make their gardens blooming marvellous and be part of the Heart of England in Bloom campaign.

Whether it’s a huge garden with wildflower beds and statues, or just a small square of grass, a hanging basket or a window box, gardeners can join in with the Tamworth in Bloom 2022. The winner will receive a top prize of garden centre vouchers.

Last year, although not entering the Heart of England campaign due to the pandemic, the residents garden competition was still promoted to honour all the stunning residents’ gardens around the borough.

Julia Heys from Amington, was awarded as 2021 Garden Resident Winner, receiving a top prize of £100 worth of Planters vouchers.

Julia’s garden was an excellent example of how you can create an amazing, affordable space, and how you can utilise an area to provide bio-diversity and attract wildlife such as bees, butterflies and pollinator insects. The use of recycled objects, trees, plants and beautiful flower beds and baskets attracted the judging panel to this lovely open space.

Highly commended places were given to Nerma Williams in Coton Green and Susan Newson, who also receive Planters vouchers this year of £50 each.

It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced gardener, a complete beginner or somewhere in between – we’d love you to enter this year’s competition.

Tamworth Borough Council is celebrating this year’s Tamworth in Bloom campaign with the theme of ‘Get Blooming Active Tamworth - and celebrate!’ with the focus on the long-term plan to improve areas in and around the borough and setting up community involvement to maintain planting beds and floral areas.

The theme is also celebrating two exciting events that are happening this year– The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Cllr Rob Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “There are many things to be proud of in Tamworth and I’m delighted that after two years of pandemic restrictions and lockdowns, we can fully celebrate Tamworth within our bloom programme.

“We would like to see as many people as possible getting involved in this year’s gardening competition, because the most important part of Tamworth in Bloom isn’t the flowers, it’s about working together in the borough and doing our bit to make Tamworth a place to rightly be proud of.”

To enter this year’s individual garden competition, just take a picture of your garden and email it to Garden Competition at communications@tamworth.gov.uk.

The closing date for entries for the competition is 12 noon on Friday, July 29 and the winner will be announced mid- August.
