Tamworth’s FREE annual St George’s festival is nearly here! There is a packed programme of entertainment and activities on offer for the whole family in the Castle Grounds on Saturday 20 April, from 11am – 5pm.

The FREE annual festival is one of the highlights of Tamworth Borough Council’s impressive calendar of outdoor events, drawing thousands of visitors from across the country. 

The line-up includes all the festival favourites that have led to the event becoming well-known, including jousting, a living history camp, stalls, fairground rides and children’s activities.

A first for this event, the Community Games will be in the grounds all day to offer a variety of activities from local providers and clubs helping to create opportunities for everybody to try new sporting activities in a fun and friendly environment. Throughout the day Medieval Have a Go Archery and children’s activities will be ongoing within the encampments. Knights will also be presenting displays and children's drills.

Confirmed this year is a variety of stalls offering food, refreshments and a selection of gifts.

For the savoury food lovers there are noodles, German sausages, Indian food, Greek gyros, burgers and hot dogs. For those with a sweet tooth, enjoy pick and mix fudge, milkshakes, churros and ice cream, plus much more!

Local craft stalls and artists will be providing entertainment and gifts. Try your hand at hook a duck, make your own crafts, face painting plus glitter tattoos. 

An array of different gifts and treats, including toys, pet treats, accessories and artisan soap will be available. Plus charity stalls including Macmillan Cancer Support, Dogs Trust, Lichfield Sea Cadets and the Royal British Legion.

Adey Ramsel, Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager for Tamworth Arts and Events and Assembly Rooms, said: “The St George’s Day festival is a fun and jam-packed day that the whole family can enjoy.

“We are very excited to showcase fun activities and festival favourites this year. There are a number of different stalls and caterers joining us to help make the day a great success.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of people to the town for the celebrations again this year from 11am. Due to the popularity of this event, we would encourage visitors to arrive early and use public transport if possible.”
