Tamworth Local Plan 2001-2011

What is the Tamworth Local Plan?

The Borough Council adopted the Tamworth Local Plan on 6th July 2006; it sets out a number of land allocations and policies relating to Tamworth.  Together with the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy, Staffordshire Structure Plan, Staffordshire Minerals Core Strategy and Staffordshire Waste Core Strategy, it forms the statutory Development Plan for Tamworth.

What are saved policies?

Under planning legislation the policies remained in force for three years from the date of adoption. The Council had to apply to the Secretary of State to save any relevant policies beyond 5th July 2009 and was successful in saving 27 polices. The Secretary of State's letter and direction can be downloaded here.

How can I obtain a copy of the Local Plan?

You can view the Saved Policy Local Plan and the Proposals Map here.  It should be noted that the following policies shown on the Proposals Map have been deleted, but the Map has not been amended to reflect this.  The Map will be brought up to date when the Core Strategy has been adopted.

  • ENV1, ENV2, ENV3, ENV4, ENV5, ENV17, ENV22, ENV23, ENV28, HSG2a, HSG2e, HSG2l, HSG2m and EMP2.

In the case of the Green Belt, sites of nature conservation interest and conservation areas, the designations themselves still apply but you will need to refer to national policy for guidance.

If you wish to buy a hard copy of the Local Plan, including the Proposals Map, you can obtain one from the reception at Marmion House or by writing to the Development Plan Team at the address below. The Local Plan costs £10, which includes postage and packing.
