What is the Tamworth Local Plan?
Tamworth Borough Council adopted the Tamworth Local Plan on 6
July 2006. Together with the West Midlands Regional
Spatial Strategy, Staffordshire Structure Plan, Staffordshire
Minerals Core Strategy and Staffordshire Waste Core Strategy, it
forms the statutory Development Plan for Tamworth.
What are saved policies?
Under the
provisions of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the
policies remain in force for three years from the date of
adoption. The Council had to apply to the Secretary of State
for agreement to issue a direction to save any policy beyond 5
July 2009 and an application was made in November 2008 to save
27 policies. The Cabinet report setting out the
Council's justification for saving policies is available on the
right. The main considerations for saving policies are that
they form part of the Council’s central strategy, they are
consistent with but do not repeat national policy and they provide
a local interpretation of policy. A large number of
policies were considered to be unnecessary because they repeat
national planning policy guidance and some were contrary to
guidance that has been issued since 2006.
The Secretary of
State agreed to the Council’s request and has issued a direction to
this effect. The letter and direction can be downloaded on
the right.
The Saved Policy version of the Local Plan
contains the entire text of the adopted Plan for completeness, but
shows the deleted policies and supporting text struck out.
Policy EMP8 on Telecommunications was deleted in this process
because it was felt that PPS8 adequately covers the issue. As
a result, the Telecommunications SPD has been downgraded to the
status of Interim Planning Guidance.
How can I obtain a copy of the Local
Plan?
You can view the text of the Saved Policy Local Plan on the
right and use the external link to access the Proposals Map.
It should be noted that the following policies shown on the
Proposals Map have been deleted, but the Map has not been amended
to reflect this. The Map will be brought up to date when
the Core Strategy has been adopted.
- ENV1, ENV2, ENV3, ENV4, ENV5, ENV17, ENV22, ENV23, ENV28,
HSG2a, HSG2e, HSG2l, HSG2m and EMP2.
In the case of the Green Belt, sites of nature conservation
interest and conservation areas, the designations themselves
still apply but you will need to refer to national policy for
guidance.
If you wish to buy a hard copy of the Local Plan, including the
Proposals Map, you can obtain one from the reception at Marmion
