Sleeping Rough
If you are sleeping rough life is tough.
If you are homeless and living on the streets
you should speak to someone at Tamworth Borough Council or social
services (if you are under 18) as soon as possible. Living on
the streets can be detrimental to your health and wellbeing and
cause lots of other related problems.
The council can give you a list of hostels
which may be a better option than sleeping rough. You will need to
be able to prove who you are and your income in order to secure a
hostel place.
In Tamworth there is the Starfish project at
the St Edith’s church crypt in Tamworth town centre, St Martins
Church in Stoneydelph and St Andrews in Leyfields. They offer food
and drinks as well as support for people who are homeless.
You may also be able to get a food parcel, so you have something to
eat.
If you are sleeping rough try and keep
yourself safe. Stay in well lit areas, near other people if
possible. Wear lots of layers of clothing, and newspaper and
cardboard to create a barrier between yourself and the ground. Try
and sleep somewhere under cover so you stay dry.
Above all only sleep rough as a very last
resort, as you are making yourself very vulnerable. If staying at
home isn’t an option ask friends or family members if you could
stay with them until something more permanent and suitable can be
arranged.
