Empty Homes

Empty Homes in Tamworth
In March 2012 there were around 215 empty homes in Tamworth
that have been empty for 6 months or longer. Of these some are on
the market, some are for sale or being renovated, but others
are just left empty for no reason.
Empty homes can become a target for vandalism and
anti-social behaviour, and create an image of neglect and decline
within the community. They also represent a ‘wasted resource’, as
there are many people in the borough in need of decent housing and
there is limited land for building new housing on.
Tackling empty homes and bringing them back into use is a
sustainable way of meeting housing demand is a key aim of the
Council's new Housing and Health Strategy. Leaving them empty can
also be very expensive for the owners who are missing out on
potential income from renting or selling the property.
