Many private landlords need a licence from Tamworth Borough Council to rent out their accommodation.  This is called mandatory licensing.  The properties requiring a licence are called Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO).  You must have a House in Multiple Occupation licence if the property you rent:

• has three storeys or more (including usable basements or attics); and
• is occupied by five or more people; and
• those people form two or more households; and
• tenants share some amenities like kitchen, bathroom or laundry.

Tamworth Borough Council has a duty under the Housing Act 2004 to maintain a public register of all HMO Licences.  The information contained within the register may be viewed here. Click on the link in the address column in the table below to see further details such as:

• the landlord’s name and address
• details of the person or company managing the accommodation
• the maximum number of households

The HMO properties have been listed in street name order.  You should be aware that although the information on this online register is updated at regular intervals, there may be more recent data held by us in intervening periods.  You can always contact us to check for any latest information for your area of interest.
