Priority Need Groups
Tamworth Borough Council operates a choice
based letting system known as Finding a Home. For simplicity
and to improve transparency the Council uses a banding system,
prioritising reasonable preference groups set out in Housing
legislation. The Reasonable preference categories
are:-
- People who are homeless (within the meaning
of part 7 of the Housing Act 1996)
- People who are owed a duty under s190(2);
193(2); 0r 195(2)
- People occupying in sanitary or overcrowded
housing or otherwise living in unsatisfactory housing
conditions
- People who need to move on medical or welfare
grounds, including grounds relating to disability and
- People who need to move to a particular
locality in the district of the Authority, where failure to meet
that could lead to hardship (to themselves or others)
If you fall in to one of these groups,
priority need is not automatically accepted. The Housing Advice
team will investigate your application and provide you with a
decision as to what duty is owed to you.
