Questions & Answers
Q. Can I continue to rent my garage even it’s going to
be disposed of in the future?
A. Yes, in the mean time you can continue to rent your garage
and nearer to the time when it is to be disposed of we will contact
you again to give you details of the date to vacate the garage and
hand your keys in.
Or you can also apply for an alternative
garage now.
Q. Why are some of garages being disposed of?
A. For some sites the majority of the garages
are empty, there is no demand for them and this has been the case
for many years. The garages need to be maintained against a back
drop of reduced expected rental income. This is not a sustainable
way to run a service. So the Council has looked at fresh new
options for some of the under used garage sites.
This has included disposing of the sites to
provide affordable housing through registered housing
providers.
We will be holding consultation meetings for
local residents for the future use of the sites remaining under
Phase 2 and Phase 3 for building affordable housing.
Q. What will happen to the remaining garages?
A. Councillors have approved an investment
strategy for the remaining sites.
The Tenants Consultative Group (TCG) is
currently considering a programme of improvements to be made.

To market the remaining garages we are
currently working behind the scenes to develop an exciting
new initiative to advertise available garages on the web, people
will be able to see at a glance what garages are available, their
location and can people can express an interest in renting a garage
instantly.
This will be a fresh new approach to letting
garages; everyone on the current waiting list will automatically be
transferred to this new scheme.
We will continue to provide people on waiting
list with information throughout the development phase.
