Tamworth Borough Council is clamping down on litter louts.

Enforcement Officers and street wardens are issuing 'on the spot' fixed penalties of £80 for littering, which could increase to £2500 if the fine is not paid on time and the offender prosecuted.

A policy of zero tolerance is being operated, showing that the Council will not accept any excuses for dropping litter, even cigarette ends, chewing gum and apple cores.

The Council spends a massive amount of money picking up litter around the borough - highlighting why it's about time Tamworth cleaned up its act.

With plenty of litter bins provided across the borough, residents are being advised to either put their rubbish in the bin or take it home - if not they will face a £80 penalty.

When a fixed penalty notice has been issued, the alleged offender has 14 days within which to make the full payment amount, or pay the discounted amount within 7 days.
