Littering and enforcement
Littering
Tamworth Borough Council is clamping down on those litter louts who
think that someone else will pick up their rubbish.
And we mean business. Enforcement Officers and street
wardens are issuing on the spot fixed penalties of £80 for
littering which could increase to £2500 if the fine is not paid on
time and the offender prosecuted. A policy of zero tolerance is
being operated, showing that the Council will not accept any
excuses for dropping litter, even cigarette ends, chewing gum and
apple cores.
The Council spends a massive amount of money picking up litter
around the Borough - highlighting why it's about time Tamworth
cleaned up its act.
The Council is committed to creating a Borough which is
attractive and clean, and fixed penalty notices have been
introduced to combat the anti social behaviour of littering. The
Enforcement Officer, has recently been recruited to patrol the
streets of Tamworth and issue fines to people caught dropping
litter. What's more Police Community Officers will be supporting
the Council by passing on details of litter louts they apprehend
for action to be taken.
With plenty of litter bins provided across the Borough,
residents are being advised to either put their rubbish in the bin
or take it home - if not they will face a £80 penalty.
"The Tidy Tamworth campaign is not just about
enforcing fines on people, but about making people feel proud of
where they live. Dropping litter makes neighbourhoods and your town
look dirty and uncared for. It's your environment, why let them get
away with it."
When a fixed penalty notice has been issued, the alleged
offender has 14 days within which to make the full payment amount,
or pay the discounted amount within 7 days. Cheques, postal orders
or money orders can be posted to Tamworth Borough Council,
Marmion House, Lichfield Street, Tamworth, B79 7BZ, Via phone on
01827 709709 or via the pay it online option on the right hand
side.
Anyone who witnesses and wants to report a litter lout should
contact Tamworth Borough Council on (01827) 709709 with as many
details of the offender as possible, without putting themselves at
risk. Or you can also use the Report it online function on this
website.
