Pest Control Service
Tamworth Borough Council will no longer carry
out pest control in people’s homes and gardens (from April 1,
2011).
It used to cost the borough council £53
each time it carried out a pest control operation. However by
changing the service, the authority has saved more than £45,000 a
year - and residents can still access pest control at a
similar cost through a private company.
The council will continue to bait the Castle
Grounds to control the rat population - along with other borough
council owned land - to ensure the town is kept relatively free of
rodents.
While the borough council will no longer carry
out the service, it will point residents to where they can they can
access exterminators.
Most privately operated pest control services
charge approximately the same as the borough council - in the
region of £40 - meaning residents should see no change in the
price. Local authorities do not have a statutory duty to
carry out removal of pests.
Residents are encouraged to ensure any pest
control service they use are accredited by the National Pest
Control Association and the British Pest Control Association.
Under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act,
all land owners have a legal duty to keep their land free from rats
and mice.
