We achieve this by:

• registering all food premises in Tamworth
• inspecting all food premises in Tamworth to ensure cleanliness and good hygiene practices
• investigating all food complaints. To give you some idea of the type of complaints we investigate, last year we investigated glass, wood, insects and chemicals in food
  investigating food poisoning notifications and outbreaks
• providing advice and assistance to business and consumers sampling food
  
  Food Poisoning
  All positive samples for food poisoning and certain other infectious diseases are notified
  to this section by your GPs and local hospitals. Outbreaks are investigated by Environmental Health Officers from the Public Protection Team together with the Health Protection Agency.
  We do this in order to find the source of the outbreak and to stop the problem spreading.
  We contact people who have food poisoning to try to trace the source and we give advice to members of the public, food handlers and proprietors of food businesses.
