Local Businesses Flock To Safer Food Better Business Event
Tamworth Council
hailed its first ‘Safer Food Better Business’ initiative recently
held at the Phil Dix Centre a resounding success.
The event was held to help caterers and retailers comply with
current legislation. 20 local businesses ranging from Marks
& Spencer to a variety of restaurants, retailers and nursing
homes attended. It coincided with a Central Government campaign
launched by the Food Standards Agency in January entitled Good
Hygiene is Good For Business.
Councillor John Garner and Craig Davies, President of the
Lichfield and Tamworth Chamber of Commerce opened the event.
29 attendees were given a short presentation on the Safer Food
Better Business (SFBB) pack developed by the Food Standards Agency.
The pack helps businesses comply with the law, train staff, protect
their reputation and improve their business.
“By using the Safer Food Better Business Pack businesses are
helping themselves become more aware and compliant with the
legislation. Already comments have been received how
compliance with the legislation has improved their ratemyplace star
rating and resulted in increased turnover”, commented Councillor
Garner.
“Moving forward we intend to identify specific businesses that
are struggling and roll out more of these sessions”, explained a
member of the Environmental Health Team.
