New litter bins installed in Wilnecote
Four
new litter bins have been installed along Watling Street in
Wilnecote – with two of them paid for by McDonalds.
The fast food chain has sponsored two of the
bins close to its new restaurant in Watling Street, with Tamworth
Borough Council funding two more.
Vicky Bates, Business Manager at the Watling
Street restaurant, said the sponsorship of the bins was part of the
company’s commitment to the local environment, which also includes
carrying out three litter patrols every day.
“We don’t want to have an adverse impact of
the environment and we want to encourage people to throw their
litter away responsibly,” she said.
“Providing litter bins near to the restaurant
is one way of educating people to dispose of their rubbish
properly. We also encourage residents and businesses to contact us
if they see McDonalds litter, and we will make sure that it is
picked up as part of our regular litter patrols.”
The four bins have now been concreted into
place outside the restaurant, near the railway bridge, close to the
traffic island and outside the parish hall.
Cllr Stephen Doyle, Cabinet member for the
Environment, supported by Wilnecote ward member, Cllr Tina
Clements, said: “Litter is a major concern to residents, and it is
fair to say that there are always litter worries when a new fast
food outlet opens.
“We are delighted that McDonalds is listening
to these concerns and is working with us to reduce litter in and
around Watling Street.”
