Sponsorship puts wardens in the saddle
Tamworth’s street wardens now have six
brand-new bikes to help them get out and about – thanks to generous
sponsorship from a town business.
Dave Owen, who runs Dave Owen Cycles at the
Castle Grounds Activity Centre, has donated six brand-new Barracuda
bikes - each worth £230 – to the street warden team.
And they have been very gratefully received by
the wardens, who between them travel around 9,000 miles by bike
every year.
Street warden Pete Watkins is the biggest bike
user, covering an average of 250 miles each month – the equivalent
distance to riding the Tour de France ever year. This is the fourth
bike he has had in the last three years, as he does so many miles
that they wear out very quickly.
He said: “We are really grateful to Dave for
the support that he is giving to us – not only donating these six
bikes but also servicing and maintaining them for us. Dave has
always supported us and kept us on the road. It is really nice to
see a local business supporting us this way.”
The latest donation of the six bikes is a
continuation of the support which Dave Owen Cycles has given to the
warden team over the last two years.
Said Dave: “The wardens are out and about in
the community and I run a business for the community, so it makes
perfect sense for me to support them. I am delighted to be able to
help them out with these bikes and keep them on the road.”
