Housing grants now available
Homeowners and private tenants could apply for
a £5,000 grant from Tamworth Borough Council to improve their
homes.
The Home Repair Assistance grant aims to help
those who need repairs doing to their home - but would struggle to
pay for them.
The grants cover work such as roof repairs,
central heating, guttering, windows and fixing or replacing
boilers.
The grants are available to those on a low
income, claiming benefits or have a household income of less than
£16,000 a year. Applicants need to have lived at the address for
more than three years.
If someone is eligible for a grant, an
inspection of the property will be carried out by a technical
officer before a decision is made. Help will then be given to
obtaining quotes for the work.
To qualify for the Home Repair Assistance
Grant, people will have to provide evidence their address is their
main residence, whether as a private tenant or as a homeowner.
The Home Repair Assistance grants are
available to people aged under 60. Anyone over this age who would
like assistance can contact the borough council who will talk them
through other options available, including assistance from the
Housing Improvement Trust.
