Extra care housing open days

Thomas Hardy CourtPeople interested in finding out more about extra care housing are being invited to have a look at what’s on offer in Tamworth at one of two open days next week.

Thomas Hardy Court in Leyfields and MacGregor Tithe in The Leys combine independent living with 24-hour care and support, and offer an alternative to residential care.

The open days, which are being held at Thomas Hardy Court on Wednesday June 22 and at MacGregor Tithe on Friday June 24, are open to anyone interested in moving in to extra care housing, or who has a relative who may benefit from it.

Extra care housing is aimed at people who are struggling to manage living on their own but who want to maintain their independence. It offers independent accommodation, as well as a 24-hour on-site care team.

The open days are being held to tie in with the first anniversary of extra care housing in Tamworth and have been organised by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Waterloo Housing Association, Staffordshire County Council, Age UK and community care provider Radis.

Representatives from all these partners, as well as the Staffordshire PCT and the Fire Service, will be available during the open days to answer questions and provide information on extra care housing and associated services.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about the Well Being Project, which is delivered by Age UK South Staffordshire at Thomas Hardy Court and MacGregor Tithe.

Age UK South Staffordshire works in partnership with Tamworth Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and Waterloo Housing Association to deliver activities, trips and events that encourage residents to maintain a healthy, active and independent lifestyle. The project also offers befriending from Age UK South Staffs volunteers for residents who prefer one-to-one company.

Anyone who would like to apply for extra care housing should contact the Housing Advice team on 01827 709459.

Extra care housing in the two Tamworth schemes is open to anyone who has a local connection to the borough – either through already living in Tamworth or having family in the area.
