Extra care benefits for Tamworth’s older people
Tamworth Borough council’s Cabinet agreed this
week to enter a partnership with Staffordshire County Council which
will secure £260,000 of funding to provide a specialist unit at
Thomas Hardy court. The extra care sheltered housing scheme will
provide housing for frail elders enabling on site hands on care 24
hours a day.
It is hoped that the changes will increase the
choices available to older people in Tamworth and will provide
independent housing together with care and support services. The
investment will see five extra flats created and extra care and
support being provided to all residents.
“We can now progress with the proposal and
work with our colleagues at the County Council to secure the best
possible scheme” said Councillor Mary Oates, Portfolio Holder for
Quality of Life. “The aim of the changes is to provide flexible
services tailored to individual needs. This will give older people
in our community greater control over their own lives and also give
greater reassurance to our scheme residents that specialist care is
available on site in an emergency. I would like to thank everyone
involved so far for their hard work, and look forward to the
project becoming a reality.”
