Reflection area opens in Castle Grounds
A seating area which has been created as a ‘thank you’ to
the people of Tamworth and a tribute to the Mercian Regiment is now
open on the Lower Lawn in the Castle Grounds.
The reflection area – featuring a long granite
bench and encompassing the stone which was unveiled when the
Regiment was formed in the Castle Grounds in 2007 – was created as
the final part of the project which re-profiled the banks of the
River Anker through the Castle Grounds last year.
Further funding was donated by last year’s
Mayor, Cllr Lee Bates, as his parting gift to the people of
Tamworth, and the Rotary Club of Tamworth Anker made a large
contribution as part of the organisation’s centenary
celebrations.
The reflection area was officially dedicated
in a short ceremony before last week’s march through Tamworth by
the Mercian Regiment and was officially opened this week by Mayor
of Tamworth, Cllr Jeremy Oates, Cllr Bates and members of the
Rotary Club of Tamworth Anker.
