State of Tamworth Debate
Traffic improvements at Ventura Park, the
wider promotion of Tamworth town centre for shopping, and the
success of outdoor events and the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition
all came under the spotlight during this year’s State of Tamworth
debate.
The annual meeting saw Tamworth’s councillors
take part in a lively debate on the findings of public
consultations with residents, groups and businesses which have
taken place throughout the year.
A number of members of the public were in the
Council Chamber to listen to the debate and to hear councillors
discuss the achievements in Tamworth over the past year.
During the debate, a number of pledges were
made to tackle the major issues of concern to the borough’s
residents and to make Tamworth a better place to live, work and
raise a family.
They include:
Continued support for the proposal to build a
BMX track in Belgrave
- Help and support for Tamworth Football Club’s bid for promotion
to the Football League
- The council to push for a second exit from the Jolly Sailor
Retail Park next to Argos and a right turn into Fazeley Road from
Ventura Park.
- Better promotion of the town centre at Ventura Park to boost
trade and encourage shoppers to visit the whole of the town.
At the end of the debate, Council leader Cllr
Daniel Cook said: “It was a good debate and there were a lot of
issues raised. It is important that we move forward and tackle the
issues which are important to the people of Tamworth. We all need
to work together to ensure that this is done.”
