The area we cover takes in the town centre, Ventura and Jolly Sailor Retail parks, Lichfield Street flats, The Leys, Bitterscote Road estate and County Drive.

One of our main aims is to reduce crime and the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour by patrolling the town centre and the retail parks every day. We patrol all other areas as regularly as staffing and shifts allow. We carry out patrols mainly on foot but you may also spot us out and about on bikes, Arriva buses or occasionally in the Street Warden cars. We also can act as an information service for visitors or tourists to our town.

We work closely with a number of partners including Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, Staffordshire Highways, the CCTV control room and Street Scene.

We have very close links with many of the town centre shops and businesses where we help to prevent shoplifting by observing and reporting known offenders. We also provide police with details of incidents and descriptions of offenders. A lot of businesses subscribe to the Townsafe radio system and we  also carry these radios so we can be extra pairs of eyes and ears. This system also allows us to pass information to shops, pubs and businesses so that they can be aware of potential thefts or trouble at their premises.

Two of the team are actively involved with the Licensees Forum which includes all of the licensed premises in the town.

If you see us patrolling the car parks at Ventura and the Jolly Sailor, we are working with Staffordshire Police on an ongoing operation to reduce theft from vehicles – if you want to know more come and ask us.

We also report on environmental issues such as broken street lights or street furniture and we are now able to issue fixed penalty notices for littering, dog fouling, fly-tipping and fly-posting. These can result in a fine of £80 or court action if this is ignored.

Two of our team members work closely with the Tamworth Turnaround team – Pat is actually “attached” to and works with the team. Working with them, we visit all of Tamworth’s primary schools and carry out talks on subjects including litter, bullying, keeping safe, internet safety, drugs, tobacco and alcohol. In the last year we carried out more than 150 of these talks to all ages.

Pete also carries out weekly safety inspections of ALL of the borough’s 26 play areas and football areas to ensure that they are clear of graffiti, litter, broken glass, and are safe for children to use. Any minor repairs are carried out on site and larger repairs are arranged with the appropriate contractor.

We are YOUR Street Wardens – working FOR and WITH you to try and make Tamworth a Clean, Green and safe place to live, work, shop, play and visit.
