Street Wardens

street warden logoTamworth Street Wardens began patrolling the streets of Tamworth in July 2002. The main aim of the Street Wardens is to help Tamworth become a cleaner, greener and safer place to live for all of the residents. You can recognise them by their uniform which is cream/white, green and black. The uniform they wear can change slightly depending on the weather and the task they are doing.

Tamworth Street Wardens ARE NOT SUBSTITUTES FOR THE POLICE AND THEY DO NOT HAVE POLICE POWERS OF ARREST. They provide a link between the people of the local community, agencies and the Police. Patrols are carried out on foot, bikes, Arriva Buses and a new sponsored Street Warden car that has been kindly provided by Tomsons BP Garage, Glascote Road.

HOW CAN THEY HELP YOU?

Wardens can help in a number of ways. They can report to responsible agencies, including the Police and they can assess and monitor cases of:

They can report and co-ordinate improvements to the local environment, eg:

  • Fly tipping

  • Abandoned vehicles

They can provide support and work with local community groups, eg:

  • Neighbourhood Watch
  • Glascote Matters
  • PACT
  • Local Primary and Secondary Schools
  • The ARCH
  • Tamworth Youth Service

They provide educational presentations to local schools on:

  • Bullying

  • The Role of the Street Warden

Tidy Tamworth

As part of the Tidy Tamworth campaign, street wardens now have enforcement powers; which means they can issue people with a fixed penalty notice for £80 for dropping litter or £50 for dog fouling.

Failure to pay the fixed penalty could lead to prosecution.

How can you help them?
You can help the Wardens by reporting concerns over community safety, cases of anti-social behaviour and by coming up with ideas to improve your local environment. As part of Tidy Tamworth and the 'Get Behind Us' campaign, report any issues of littering or dog fouling to your street wardens with as much detail as possible. Alternatively it can be reported online by clicking on the Report It Online button.

Where to find your Wardens?
