Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch logoGeneral Information
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. It is a simple idea of getting together with your neighbours to take action to cut crime and the opportunities for crime, to help and reassure those who live in fear of crime and to encourage neighbourliness and closer communities. It is not just about reducing burglary figures - it's about creating communities who care and brings local people together and can make a real contribution to improving lives. The activity of Watch members can foster a new community spirit and a belief in the community's ability to tackle problems.
At the same time, you feel secure, knowing your neighbours are keeping an eye on your property. Watch groups are led by a volunteer
Co-ordinator whose job is to get people working together and make sure things get done. Liaison point between the Group, Police and Council on matters of concern.
Group Co-ordinators are the contact for around 10-12 houses in a street.

Tamworth
Neighbourhood Watch is seen as being a significant way to reduce crime, fear of crime and nuisance and Tamworth Borough Council and the Police jointly fund a full-time Manager to promote and support schemes throughout the Borough.

The Borough is covered by a number of residential Schemes, with most areas having some representation, although there is a need for further coverage on certain parts of Amington, Glascote and Stoneydelph in particular.

There is a Committee / Support Group which meet to further the aims of the Watch within the Borough.

As well as residential Watch schemes, there is also a School Watch, Business Watch in Amber Close, Warden Watch and it is hoped to expand on these in the near future.

The Committee / Support Group meet at the local Police Station roughly at quarterly intervals and have been involved with various schemes to reduce crime and nuisance in the Borough. The involvement of the Local Authority has ensured that any problem which impacts upon the main community may benefit from a Neighbourhood Watch input.

How are Co-ordinators contacted?
Coordinators are connected to the Staffordshire Police WatchOut system and are linked to a telephone system which gives the flexibility to contact any / all Co-ordinators within the minutes necessary. WatchOut has helped in catching suspects and travelling criminal activity.

Neighbourhood Watch is free to join and if you are interested in setting up a Group within your community please contact:-
