Neighbourhood Watch
General
Information
Neighbourhood Watch is one of
the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever.
It is a simple idea of getting together with your neighbours to
take action to cut crime and the opportunities for crime, to help
and reassure those who live in fear of crime and to encourage
neighbourliness and closer communities.
It is not just about reducing burglary figures - it's about
creating communities who care, while bringing local people together
and making a real contribution to improving lives. The activity of
Watch members can foster a new community spirit and a belief in the
community's ability to tackle problems.
At the same time, you feel secure, knowing your neighbours are
keeping an eye on your property. Watch groups are led by a
volunteer co-ordinator whose job is to get people working together
and make sure things get done.
Liaison point between the Group, Police and Council on matters
of concern. Group Co-ordinators are the contact for around 10-12
houses in a street.
Tamworth
Neighbourhood Watch is seen as
being a significant way to reduce crime, fear of crime and
nuisance; Tamworth Borough Council and the Police jointly fund a
full-time Manager to promote and support schemes throughout the
borough.
The borough is covered by a number of residential schemes, with
most areas having some representation, although there is a need for
further coverage on certain parts of Amington, Glascote and
Stoneydelph in particular.
There is a Committee / Support Group which meet to further the
aims of the Watch within the Borough.
As well as residential Watch schemes, there is also a School
Watch, Business Watch in Amber Close, Warden Watch and it is hoped
to expand on these in the near future.
The Committee / Support Group meet at the local Police Station
roughly at quarterly intervals and have been involved with various
schemes to reduce crime and nuisance in the borough.
How are Co-ordinators contacted?
Coordinators are connected to the Online Watch Link (OWL). This
online service provides the latest messages and crime alerts, along
with management tools for starting and maintaining watches.
It can be found at
