Tamworth is ideally located in the South Eastern corner of
Staffordshire just to the North of Birmingham at the gateway
between the West and East Midlands. Its position within the
extensive motorway and trunk road network and the excellent rail
communications available mean that all parts of the UK can be
easily reached from Tamworth.
Its proximity to both major international airports located in the
region, Birmingham and Nottingham East Midlands, provides superb
communications links across the globe. This strategic location has
aided the town's development into a bustling centre for commerce
and leisure, attracting businesses and visitors from across the
world.
The town is steeped in history, which can be traced back to
Saxon times when it was the capital of the ancient kingdom of
Mercia under the reign of King Offa. Tamworth Castle, a fine
example of a Norman motte and bailey fortification, still dominates
the town centre and hosts a wide range of re-enactment events and
displays to give a real taste of life through the ages. The town
also boasts an impressive array of other interesting historical
architecture, such as the Town Hall and the magnificent St.
Editha's church.
The Town Hall was built with money bequeathed by a famous son of
Tamworth, Thomas Guy, a former Tamworth MP and founder of Guy's
Hospital in London. Another famous son of Tamworth is Sir Robert
Peel, who was also MP for the town, as well as a former Prime
Minister on two separate occasions. He founded the police force
(hence the term "bobby") and delivered his famous "Tamworth
Manifesto" from the Town Hall, in front of which his statue stands
proudly today.
Tamworth has sports and recreational facilities second to none
for a town of its size. In addition to an indoor real snow ski
slope (the first in Europe) the town has an athletics stadium, a
football stadium, leisure centres, floodlit sports pitches, a
municipal golf course, indoor bowls and a 26 lane ten pin bowling
alley. Tamworth also has a ten-screen cinema, an arts and
performance venue and a wide choice of nightclubs, pubs and
restaurants. The town centre boasts an impressive indoor shopping
complex, with a large edge-of-town shopping centre being located
just a ten minute walk away.
A wide variety of commercial and industrial premises is
available, from small starter industrial units and offices, right
up to large warehouses and modern office suites. New employment
sites have been identified in the Development Plan and will further
boost the town's commercial and industrial premises portfolio over
the next few years.
Being surrounded by beautiful, unspoilt countryside with an
array of attractive villages, Tamworth offers an ideal lifestyle
mix of a vibrant town, coupled with rural tranquillity right on the
doorstep. This, in combination with its central location, excellent
communication links, first-rate leisure facilities and good range
of industrial and commercial sites and premises, make it an ideal
place to locate and grow your business.
