Beware of bogus callers!

Beware of bogus callers! We have received reports of bogus calls being made to residents in the area by individuals claiming to be from HMRC. The caller states they have received a complaint and are investigating you for tax evasion and avoidance. They claim this will lead to prosecution through the courts, that you must not ignore the message and that you should ask your lawyer to contact them immediately on a specified number.

We’d like to remind people to beware of bogus calls and not give out any private information, such as bank details or passwords. Don’t reply to text messages or emails if you’re not sure if they are genuine. For more guidance on recognising ‘HMRC’ scams please visit https://www.gov.uk/topic/dealing-with-hmrc/phishing-scams

Misleading phone numbers, websites or email address can be reported to Action Fraud. If you believe you have been the victim of fraud, contact Staffordshire Police on 101 immediately.
